Everybody would like to have a nice and cozy house to come home to at the end of a long grueling day: but not everyone is gifted with the creativity to glamorize his home without spending excessively.

If you are one of those with restrictive budgets and want your home to have a decent appearance and be livable that it currently is, here is what you can do:

1. Opt for quality products.

You might think that you are getting the best deal with cheap products. You want to know the truth? You might actually spend more by using these products rather than choosing those of good quality.

2. Use smart decorating techniques.

To liven up a dark room, the use of warm colored paints can be of great help. If the room is so sunny that it gets hot, cooler paint colors such as green or blue will do the trick. The paint should always coordinate with the fixed interiors such as the furniture and curtains.

For a narrow space, mirrors create the illusion of spaciousness. White or lighter colored paint will make a space appear less cramped: you must make sure all of the other furnishings’ colors coordinate with the paint you choose to create this effect.

One’s trash could be another’s treasure. If you find a piece of furniture or any item from bargain stores or garage sales, sometimes it needs just a bit of retouching, reupholstering or just a strategic spot to place it to make it add ambience to a room.

3. Recycle.

Use your granny’s old boxes and bottles. Spray painting them with bronze or gold can turn them into instant home decor treasures. Another way to recycle old newspaper, scratch paper, etc. is to make them into papier-mâché. It could be fun and a bonding activity for the whole family.

To make use of decorative scarves use them as wall decor. You can also create a very personalized theme in your house by greatly enlarging pictures to use as room dividers or have them made into mosaics.

4. Ask for nature’s help.

If you have a “green thumb”, make use of it in decorating. The creative use of plants will liven up any space. Just make sure they’re well-maintained and put them where they won’t make a mess when they shed their leaves.
