Wouldn’t it be convenient to have a bathroom in the basement recreation room, off a bedroom, or tucked into a small space under the stairs?

Normally, the cost of cutting into concrete or wooden floors, plus the plumbing bill, would make a homeowner think twice about the installation. Further, if the new toilet is in a basement, there could be no way for it to flush upward. But a macerating toilet by Saniflo could be the answer.

The new macerating toilet looks like a conventional toilet and commands the same amount of floor space.

Instead of routing the flush water through a drain in the floor, the system moves it through a rear-spigot outlet in the toilet bowl to a macerator pump contained in a small plastic box positioned on or inside the wall behind the toilet. The box contains a unit similar to a garbage disposal that liquefies waste in the flush water.

The unit then moves water and waste as much as 12 feet vertically and 150 feet horizontally to a sewer line or septic system.
